 WELCOME SALMING

We are thrilled to announce and welcome Salming NZ to the Whaiora Spirited Women family of Sponsors.  We feel their philosophy of how to run faster, injury-free and have more fun when running aligns perfectly with our Spirited Women! If you’re looking for good shoes, check out this new, up-and-coming brand and keep an eye on the Facebook page for giveaways and special promotions… coming up!

 HAVE YOU GOT TRAIL SHOES?

While your road running shoes are probably sufficient enough for groomed trails or fire roads, any treks into more rugged terrain will require a trail-specific running shoe.

The main difference between road shoes and trail shoes is their composition. Shoes designed for road running are generally made of lightweight material to encourage speed and responsiveness. The need for traction on paved roads is minimal, so the treads of road shoes are thin.

The soles of trail shoes are wide and close to the ground to provide support on uneven surfaces, preventing the ankle from twisting when the foot comes down on bumps or rocks on the trail. Visit the website here

A TRULY SPIRITED WOMEN – FROM BREAST CANCER TO ADVENTURE RACER

Stacey Kennedy is a truly inspirational lady.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer when her youngest son was just 6 weeks old.  She went through over 18 months of gruelling cancer treatment with two very young children.  Stacey saw a PINC & STEEL cancer rehab physiotherapist to help in her recovery from the side effects of treatment and to get her back to exercise.  She went on to train and complete the medium course Whaiora Spirited Women Adventure Race in 2017.  This year she took on another big challenge and completed the long course Whaiora Spirited Women event in Whakatane/Ohope and raised funds for the PINC & STEEL Cancer Rehabilitation Trust to support other people recovering from cancer. Watch her video and learn more about her amazing recovery story here.

It is super easy to set up a fundraising page and begin raising funds for the cause. Together with your Spirited Women Team mates you can make a big difference for New Zealanders affected by cancer. Just click here.

BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD WITH KAI CARRIER!

We are beyond excited to partner with Kai Carrier again for the 2019 Whaiora Spirited Women’s Adventure Race. They will be providing each team with a set of reusable, environmentally friendly pouches. Perfect for your homemade snacks and lunch while training for the Whaiora Spirited Women’s Adventure Race!  HELP MORE PEOPLE LIKE ISOBEL “MOVE OVER CANCER”

PINC & STEEL is a dedicated charity investing in rehabilitation for people who have been diagnosed with cancer. More New Zealanders than ever are being diagnosed with cancer and more are surviving the often gruelling treatments. Cancer surgery and treatment can have devasting physical effects and if left untreated, prevent those recovering from living a truly full life.

There is increasing evidence that physical activity has beneficial effects for several aspects of cancer survivorship specifically, weight gain, quality of life, cancer recurrence or progression, and prognosis (likelihood of survival). New cancer treatments are helping people live longer, and consequently it is critical that we help them live better. Rehabilitation and exercise are key components to achieving this.

The financial burden of a cancer diagnosis affects patients and their families from all communities and there is no ACC or Government funding for cancer rehabilitation in New Zealand. The PINC & STEEL Trust raises funds to subsidise the cost of rehabilitation for men, women and young people after a cancer diagnosis and has a dedicated group of certified physiotherapists throughout the country  delivering this essential service.

Watch Isobel’s video to here see how cancer rehabilitation can help people facing cancer.

PINC & STEEL needs your help to support more people like Isobel Move Over Cancer.

It is super easy to set up a fundraising page and together with your Spirited Women Team mates you can make a big difference for New Zealanders affected by cancer. https://www.everydayhero.co.nz/event/spiritedwomen19
