The easiest way of adding new teammates to your Spirited Women’s team is by the new teammate making the registration themselves. This is simple and easy following the below instructions.

  1. The new team member/s need to create an Event Plus profile or login to their profile if they already have one;
    1. For the North Island event, click here – Central Hawkes Bay
    2. For the South Island event, click here – Wanaka
  2. Click ‘Join a team’ or ‘Register myself’
  3. Enter the code (PLEASE INSERT TEAM CODE) and click ‘apply’ when asked for which will automatically add them to the team, as per below image
  4. Then add their personal details and continue on with registration

Team Captains, if you have new teammates, please pass on the above step-by-step instructions, AND please remember to include your unique team code which can be found in your Event Plus profile or on your confirmation email. Team captains also please check you are in the correct age division. If not go, into your registration and change it before event day.

TOP TIPS FOR THE BIKE LEG FROM OUR EVENT MANAGER!

Our Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race events involve three disciplines – Trekking, Biking and Kayaking. Here are some tips for the bike leg.

During this leg you can expect to be biking on trails, animal tracks, 4wd tracks, gravel roads, sealed roads, grass and even pushing your bike up or down hills, so practice the lot. Do as many of your trainings rides off-road as you can. Take your pack with all your compulsory gear with you on as many training sessions as you can. This is for strength, and to get your bum used to the weight, as well as the knowledge of your equipment (i.e. how are you going to get to your water? Food? Where is the most efficient place to store required gear for easy access? Invest in or make a map board so you don’t have to stop all the time to get your map out to read it. Learn how to use a compass to keep your map and map board always orientated to the land. If you like to wear clip in shoes, be prepared to carry a set of running shoes in your bag in case of remote transitions, if you like to wear flat shoes make sure they have some good grip. Get your bike serviced prior to the event. Get a tool kit and have a spare tube, some tyre levers, some allen keys and a chain break. Know how to use your tools. Practice prior to event day. Go to the Preparation page on the Spirited Women website for more ideas. Do the mahi get the rewards.

BECKY CLARKE FROM FURTHER FASTER TALKS ABOUT THE DAUNTING TASK OF PACKING ALL THAT COMPULSORY KIT!

If you are new to the Spirited Women adventure racing events, the compulsory gear list can be a bit daunting. So you hit the shops to start ticking off that list and you make yourself a fine collection of gear. Now you are starting to feel like a real adventure athlete! As race day approaches you to ask yourself… how do I fit all this gear into this tiny pack? Great question! Here are some tips that you may find helpful.

Invest in a good pack. A good quality, comfortable pack will last you years and make your adventures easier. Try it on and run around the shop. Jump up and down, swing your arms and stuff it with all your gear, or our pack weights to see how it feels full. Plenty of pockets to stash sandwiches, bars, gels and lip balm is a must.

Keep it light. Purchasing lightweight gear saves so much space and weight. Big chunky thermals and waterproof jackets can be heavy and difficult to pack. I use the Montane Minimus Jacket which only weighs 190 grams! Look at a high-performing mid-layer, that keeps you warm, but is not big and bulky. Waterproof pants are often recommended, and when you need them, you really need them!

It’s a game of Tetris. Be clever when you are packing, don’t just stuff it all in. My vest pack doesn’t have a padded back so it’s super light and moulds to my back. If I stuff all my gear in it doesn’t fit efficiently and feels lumpy. So I carefully pack it with the waterproof jacket and waterproof pants folded at the back of the bag and then I roll the smaller items up and stack them tidily. Taking the time to do this saves space!

Take time and care to pack your pack. You don’t want a spewing waterfall of gear when you are mid-race! Valuable time can be lost if you are fumbling and looking for gear! ROLL IT UP TIGHT AND MAKE IT EASY TO FIND

Keep it dry. Use a dry bag inside your pack to keep all your gear dry. Some events have compulsory gear checks throughout so I use a clear re-sealable bag. It keeps everything dry and if you can point to the items through the bag it saves so much time! Squeeze all the air out before you do the zip up and it works like a vacuum bag. A snap-lock bag is perfect for the cell phone.

Don’t Double Up. You are doing this race in a team – so make sure you split the compulsory items that you only need one of the per team – like the first aid kit. Also, have one person carry chews and goos and another carry trail bars etc and have them handy… That way you don’t have to waste time on the course searching in 3 bags for enough food for everyone. When you decide to eat one person can grab them out of one bag easily for the whole team.

Check out the rest of the blog here and you can even watch a video of how to pack your gear.

TIPS ON PACKS, SPOT PRIZE DELIGHTS AND STAYING HYDRATED WITH CAMELBAK

Getting the right pack is important for adventure racing. Check out the range of packs from our supporter Camelbak, they are supplying us with six Octane 9 packs for spot prizes at each event. Come along to the Spirited Women awards ceremony to be in the draw to win one of these.

The Octane packs are built for trail running and fast-paced hiking, the Women’s Octane 9 is designed specifically for women. The best-in-class Crux reservoir holds 2 litres of water, but if you need to carry more, stash a Quick Stow flask in one of the specifically sized harness pockets. Designed just for women, the harness allows your gear placement to be customized with the use of upper and lower pockets so you can carry your water and fuel where it’s most comfortable. The stretch overflow on the back is perfect for a rain shell or extra layers while attachment points allow you to secure trekking poles, or additional gear. For trail runs, hiking, or run commuting to the office, the Octane 9 has you covered.

SOME GREAT ADVICE FROM ZEENYA CLOTHING ON HOW TO RELOCATE YOUR TEAMMATES

Find your teammates no sweat! Picture this – it’s the 3rd to last checkpoint and one of your teammates has just thrown away her bike and jumped through the bushes to click the card. There’s a rush of teams around you and everyone’s wearing black tights and a Spirited Women bib. You spend moments asking yourself is it her every time someone else pops out of the bush. Want the sure-fire way to know it is her? Wear colour. Know your teammates anywhere when you’re dressed in Zeenya clothing. The latest range of colours for winter training is online now www.zeenyaclothing.com. Colour up your team with Zeenya and stand out from the crowd!

SPIRITED WOMEN ARE STOKED TO WELCOME RAB TO THE SPIRITED WOMEN FAMILY

Good quality lightweight equipment is the key to staying safe in the outdoors. As we often say there is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing choices. The Eco Downpour Jacket is the perfect lightweight and packable waterproof jacket for trail running, hiking and adventures.

Made from recycled 2.5 layers Pertex® Resolve fabric with DWR treatment gives highly breathable protection and is Rab’s first mono-polymer jacket with 20,000mmHH waterproof performance. Using a polyester outer and membrane means that in addition to being 100% recycled, it also has the future potential to be fully recycled at the end of its life.

The adjustable hem and cuffs, and pit zips allow you to tailor the fit and ventilation according to conditions. The two-way adjustable hood gives reliable visibility, and the zipped pockets are large enough to stash a map.

Check them out here.

A NON-EVENT RELATED TIP FROM SISTERS WINES ON WINE GLASSES AND SERVING TEMPERATURES (well, wine is umm nutrition…?!)

Wine temperature.

Full-bodied reds are best served between 16°C and 18°C, while a lighter style, like our pinot noir, shines at 12°C to 14°C. But it’s all about what tastes and feels right for you – so serve at the temperature you enjoy (which can include slightly chilled in summer) and without having to find a thermometer!

The shape and type of glass really do make a difference.

A large glass does provide a more fulfilling wine experience. Not because you pour more in it – should only pour to about a third – but because you can swirl the wine around so when you stick your nose in the aroma is more pronounced due to the increase in surface area.

The Sisters Wines are wine for women like you who do extraordinary things, every day. Overall winners of every category in both the Central Hawkes Bay and Wanaka events will receive Sister’s wines as part of their prize packs. Nom nom.

Did you know you can buy The Sisters Wines, online? Check them out here.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ZEFFER OUR FINISH LINE SPONSORS!

A massive congratulations to our fabulous Finish line beverage partner ZEFFER. Their 0% Crisp Apple Cider has been named Highly Commended in this year’s New World Beer and Cider Awards!

Here is what they have to say about the awards:

“What makes this one so special is the care we take to slowly ferment freshly crushed local apples before gently removing the alcohol, ensuring we keep all that deliciously refreshing craft cider flavour intact. The judges picked up on this too and had these very kind words to share:

“An absolute belter of a zero per cent cider, with real cider character to the fore. If you didn’t know better, you’d swear it’s the real thing. Judges praised the lively apple flavour and crisp acidity of this non-alcoholic easy drinker.”

Head over to the Zeffer store to order some online.

Spirited Women – All women’s Adventure Race: Mid-April 2022 e-news

View web version | Unsubscribe

Happy Easter Ladies!!

We hope you are all doing okay out there. We are jumping for joy in the hope that the COVID peak is behind us, and the mandates associated with it are gone. We can now get back to doing what we love, which is delivering events the way they are meant to be delivered. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces as you cross the finish line. This month’s e-news is simply to update you all on a few changes and to reconnect.

NEW EVENT DATES TO POP IN YOUR CALENDAR

  • Central Hawkes Bay (3rd time lucky) on September 30 – October 2nd, 2022
  • Wanaka (2nd time lucky) on March 31 – April 2nd, 2023

A MESSAGE FROM CENTRAL HAWKES BAY TOURISM

Central Hawke’s Bay was devastated that the Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure racing event had to be postponed earlier this year due to COVID, but it is with great excitement that we get to see you all this spring!

With that comes re-planning. Take a look at Central Hawke’s Bays accommodation providers to rebook your stay. From old homesteads to cosy motels and rural farm stays, there is something for everyone.

With some recent flooding that Central Hawke’s Bay endured in late March, our beautiful cycling network, The Tukituki Trails, took a hard hit with our beloved Tarewa Swing Bridge that connected one side of the trails to the other, and many parts of the trails washed away. You can support their initiative by visiting their page, Friends of the Tukituki Trail – any support in this time would be greatly appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you in Springtime!

CENTRAL HAWKES BAY SEPTEMBER 30TH TO OCTOBER 2ND – EVENT UPDATE

The event registration/expo for this event will now take place at the Havelock North Function Centre and the Awards Ceremony will now be held at the Mitre 10 Park Athletics Stadium.

Please refer to our website for the updated Event timetable. Please also note that the start waves are likely to change again and that this timetable is still a work in progress.

If you are a current entrant, we thank you for your support and patience.

  • If you can make the new dates your entry has been automatically transferred.
  • If your entire team can’t make the new date your option is to sell your entry privately to another team. Many teams have done this successfully. We have set up a Facebook group here to help you connect with others.
  • If you were forced to withdraw from our event due to vaccine mandates or COVID concerns and now wish to come back on board, please email us
  • If you can now make the new Spring date then check out our facebook group to buy an entry from someone who can’t make it or get in touch with us so we can hook you up with someone who is selling an entry.

WANAKA MARCH 31st to APRIL 2ND, 2023 – EVENT UPDATE

We know this is a long way away, but we promise you it will be well worth the wait.

For the 2023 Wanaka Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race. The event registration/expo and awards ceremony locations for this event are TBC.

Please refer to our website for the updated Event timetable. Please also note that the start waves are likely to change again and that this timetable is a work in progress.

We currently have 2 Long Course entries available, but all other Courses have sold out.

SOME EASTER MOTIVATION FROM THE TEAM AT ZEENYA!

These shorter days mean we really need to make sure we’re seen when we’re out exercising in the evenings. Paired with your high-vis or glow vest, you’ll be seen a mile away in your Zeenya tights. We were super sad to miss you all this summer and are hanging out for CHB. Head to our website and grab yourself some training gear to heat up the motivation as the weather cools.  Because we love you Spirited Women so much and to cheer us all up with some retail therapy, we are offering $15 off any order with the code SW2022 – which ends April 30th.

A SWEET LITTLE OFFER FROM BECKY AT GOODBYE PRODUCTS!

As the season shifts cooler in New Zealand, your skin needs more protection from wind and cold, especially lips, noses and cheeks. We’ve got Manuka Balm paired with Big and Little to make it easy to get stocked up. Right now when you buy Big Manuka Balm you get the little Manuka Balm free. Head to our website.

WE WELCOME A NEW SPONSOR TO THE SPIRITED WOMEN’S TEAM!

We are thrilled to be teaming up with the guys at Locator beacons NZ who are supporting us with a couple of wonderful Personal Locator Beacons and some LED torches as spot prizes for our upcoming Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race events.

Locator Beacons NZ believes that what the Spirited Women events are all about go hand in hand with the services they provide throughout NZ.

KEEPING YOU IN THE KNOW ON OUR CURRENT WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY!

We know this is hard to get to grips with and it is less than ideal, but please understand that we are now trying to make a 12-month budget stretch to cover a 24 month plus period. We have done our best to make our refund policy as transparent as possible since opening our entries on June 1st.

Click here for further information on our refunds and withdrawal policies.

SOME TIPS FOR IMPROVING YOUR NAVIGATION SKILLS

With Easter just around the corner why not get your family, friends or your Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race team together and practice a bit of navigation and map reading?

  • Test each other trying to identify objects on a topographical map. One person has the map legend, the other has the map. Ask questions such as what does this black cross on the map mean? What symbol represents a cliff? How many vertical metres will I need to climb if I go from point a to point B?
  • Get a topographical map of your town, draw some red circles on it than get together and go to the circles on key features of the map such as the tops of hills or intersections, a bend in a track or river or a vegetation boundary taking the quickest route. Or photocopy the map and have one each. Meet at each circle – see who gets there first.
  • Spend some time using a compass to orientate your map to the land around you. Wasting time going in the wrong direction makes it hard for everyone. Google how to orientate a map using a compass and try it out.

PARTING WORDS

Let’s hope the worst is behind us and we can move forward and start to rebuild. The Countdown is back on, and we are so excited about the seventh edition of the Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race North Island in Central Hawkes Bay & the third edition of the Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race South Island in Wanaka. Both events are going to be truly awesome, and we can’t wait to see your faces as you come across the finish line.

We encourage you all to kick start your team chats and training sessions and to stay fit and focused over the winter months. Wishing you all a happy and safe Easter break.

Kindest regards, Neil, Katrine and Debbie

Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race

Dear Spirited Women,

We are very excited to finally be back on track and able to let you know the new dates for our postponed Central Hawkes Bay and Wanaka 2022 events.

It has been a very difficult process dealing with multiple stakeholders but we have now managed to lock in and secure two new event dates:

  • Central Hawkes Bay Friday 30th September  – Sunday 2nd October 2022
  • Wanaka Friday 31st March – Sunday 2nd April 2023 (next year)

If you are a current entrant in either of these events we thank you for your support and patience. If you can make the new dates your entry will be automatically transferred.

If any of your team members cannot make the new date they can be replaced by your team captain on their EventPlus profile. If your entire team can’t make the new date your option is to sell your entry privately to another team. If you are able to find someone to buy your entry, please contact us and we can advise on how to proceed to make the switch with no costs incurred. We have set up a Facebook group here to help you connect with others.

NOTE:

  • Entries are not transferable to other Spirited Women events
  • No refunds will be given as per the refund policy

Thank you for your understanding we have done our best to try to bring you a Spirited Women experience that we are ultimately super proud of. We cannot wait to see you all (eventually) at the start line.

If you or a team you know missed out on a 2022 entry then don’t panic as we now have some availability.

We have 68 spaces available for our Central Hawkes Bay event and 8 spots available for our Wanaka event. If you are keen to enter go to our website and enter now whilst you can.

Happy training ladies.

Kindest regards, Neil, Katrine and Debbie

Spirited Women 2022 – HOW QUICKLY THINGS CHANGE

View web version | Unsubscribe

Hi Spirited Women,

These are painfully difficult times for event organisers and indeed you the participants.

We would like to thank all those who have communicated their thoughts and provided us with feedback over the past few days. We are passionate about our event and our participants and are driven solely by the desire to put on an event that provides you all with an opportunity to be Spirited Women. Please understand that we do not take any of these decisions lightly.

Since our announcement that went out to our 2022 CHB entrants last Thursday, we have been monitoring the situation, taking stock of new information, and assessing our decision daily. Developments over the past few days have made it even more difficult for us to deliver our events practically and safely, and even more difficult for you the participants to get to our events.

We have pushed and pushed but we can push no longer, and it seems that the stars are not aligning. It is with much disappointment that we must announce the postponement of both the Summer 2022 Central Hawkes Bay and Wanaka Spirited Women events.

We have a huge amount of work ahead of us. Whilst we have given an indication to you all that we will reschedule in Spring, we will not reschedule whilst COVID is still having a significant impact on the events world. It is our intention to provide you with a date when we feel 100 per cent confident that we can deliver a Spirited Women event to you, to the standard that you are all accustomed to. We know this is less than ideal however, we will give you all at least 3 months’ notice of the new event dates so you can all get your heads back in the game.

All current Central Hawkes Bay and Wanaka team entries will be automatically transferred to the future event dates.  No refunds are available. If one or more team members are unable to make the new event date (when announced), then they can be replaced. If an entire team is unable to make the new event date (when announced), then the team can privately on-sell their entry.

If your team withdrew after the Government’s announcement at 11 am on Sunday 23rd of January 2022 that the entire country was going to move Red on the Covid Protection Framework, we will give your team until Friday 25th February 2022 to re-sign-up for the event for the same sum we refunded you. Please email debbie@dare2sweatevents to action this. If your team withdrew prior to this date, then you will need to accept your decision at the time.

To conclude, we ask for some time and space from everyone, so we can work through this postponement, get our breath back and refocus. The event is nothing without all its staff who have been working under immense pressure behind the scenes the last few weeks, so they are our number one priority.

We appreciate your understanding and are truly gutted to be making this announcement.

Sincerely…Neil, Kat, Debbie & the entire event delivery team from Dare2Sweat Events.

Spirited Women – All women’s Adventure Race: Special announcement enews

View web version | Unsubscribe

Dear 2022 Central Hawke’s Bay Spirited Women,

We know you are all eagerly awaiting this news. Thanks for being patient with us.

As we are sure you are all aware, the entire country is currently in the RED traffic light system. We have spent many hours poring over the requirements for Outdoor sporting events in the Red Traffic Light Covid-19 Protection Framework and liaising with other event directors, key stakeholders, key contractors and landowners and we believe we can run the Spirited Women Central Hawkes Bay event with some vital changes to our normal operations on the date of February 26th. The Government Covid Response Framework (Traffic Light System) is designed to help the nation continue to move around, learn and work in a way that minimizes the potential spread of COVID19. It is not designed to stop events, but simply to make sure events are managed well at the different colours.

However, as we well know the protocols and regulations could change anytime between now and the end of February so we may still need to postpone to a date in Spring. If we are forced to postpone by any of the following scenarios, then we will set a new date in Spring 2022 and communicate that date to you as quickly as we can. These are the scenarios that could still force a postponement:

  • The Government imposes changes to the guidelines for outdoor sporting events under RED
  • The Government imposes travel restrictions that significantly restrict travel for participants, staff and contractors
  • Air NZ services are severely impaired, significantly restricting travel for participants, staff and contractors.
  • The Council & District Health Board (DHB) issue new advice

In light of this uncertainty, we suggest you contact your accommodation provider and ask if they would be willing to transfer your booking across to a Spring date (tbc) if this becomes necessary.

The current refund policy is still in play and no refund is available at this time however, should we postpone, all current entries will be automatically transferred to the new date.

So what this all means is we are still planning to deliver the CHB event 25th – 27th February with the new format outlined below unless one of the four scenarios outlined above comes into play.

If we can go ahead as planned, we will be making the following changes to the event delivery. Please make sure you have read and understood all the points below:

  • Supporters and Spectators will be prohibited from attending the event.
  • If you are unwell, please do not attend.
  • All participants must be fully vaccinated.
  • Team Captains will need to pre-book a Registration-Expo slot in advance. Slots will be available every 20 minutes between 2pm – 9pm, (note the new extended time frame) and cater for 22 teams. Captains need to be sure all four team members can attend at this time. Bookings can be made through the team captain’s EventPlus profiles from 7am on Tuesday 8th of February.
  • All four team members will need to attend the Registration–Expo together. My Vaccination Passes and a form of photo identification (i.e., Drivers License or Passport) will be required by all and will be verified by our staff. Face Masks must be worn by all.
  • Once vaccination passes have been verified one team member will be allowed to collect the team box. All Maps & Race Notes will be contained in this box.
  • The course is entirely on Private Property. Any entrants spotted on the event course between 2:00pm on Friday 25th February and their allotted Vehicle Arrival & Parking Time on Saturday 26th February will automatically forfeit their right to participate.
  • Race Notes will contain all briefing information (note: if you have any questions which the answer is not either in your race notes or on the website, these can be emailed to us and any late information we feel pertinent to communicate to teams will be done so via a group email to all entrants and on the start line).
  • Spot prizes will be pre-drawn and handed out at registration
  • Waves will be limited to 22 teams or fewer (to keep the gathering to fewer than 100 people with Event Staff and Contractors) and staggered every 20min.
  • It is mandatory for Personal Face Masks to be worn between leaving your parked vehicle and your wave start, and from finishing to returning to your vehicle. Masks must be carried by each entrant throughout the race. Masks must also be worn by all team members when Transitioning and attending Mystery Activities.
  • Hand sanitiser is now a compulsory gear item to be carried throughout the event by each entrant and competitors are to use it anytime they feel they need to.
  • Paddling gear will be disinfected between waves.
  • All staff and marshalls on course are double vaccinated. They will be wearing masks and socially distancing themselves from participants.  Verbal instructions will be given and support provided when necessitated.
  • When you come across another team on course, please respect social distancing rules and space yourselves out and/or pass appropriately.
  • Upon finishing, all teams must immediately put on their Face Masks, hand in all race bibs, their team timing transponder and control card(s) in the finish chute.
  • Collection of your finishers glass and complimentary drink will be contactless.
  • Teams will be asked to not linger at the finish to keep those there to fewer than 100 people at any one time. Move on through, order & pick-up what you need, collect your bikes, return to your vehicles and depart in a smart & efficient manner.
  • The results will be posted on the results page on the Spirited Women — All Women’s Adventure Race website on Sunday morning.
  • The Awards Ceremony will be cancelled. Captains from teams placing in the top three in their age division and top three in their category overall are asked to collect their team’s Performance Awards from the Spirited Women event trailer outside the Pettigrew Arena between 9:30am & 11:00am on Sunday 27th February. Please bring Photo ID.

Please know that we have turned ourselves inside out over this decision, so we ask that you are patient with us moving forward. We do not have a crystal ball and cannot see into the future, but we are doing our best with the current information available to us.

We once again thank you for your support and understanding at this difficult time. Our final e-news and final event information update will be coming to you 10 days prior to the event on Wednesday 16th February. The Spirited Women team are looking forward to seeing you all on the 25th February.

Kind regards,
Neil, Katrine and Debbie

Spirited Women – All women’s Adventure Race: Mid-January 2022 e-news

View web version | Unsubscribe

Happy New Year Ladies!

We don’t want to freak you out at all, but there are a little over five weeks until race day for our Central Hawkes Bay teams and ten weeks for our Wanaka teams… are you ready to do this?

This month’s e-news is all about planning and preparation for our Spirited Women. We all know that good planning and preparation add to the overall event experience. SO… it is time for you to confirm your travel/accommodation arrangements, get your bike serviced and sorted and have a checklist of things to do before event day.

It is time to start thinking about what equipment you need, what backpack you are going to use, what gear you’re going to carry, how you’re going to hydrate and fuel yourself, and what you’re going to wear on race day. Keep reading for some top tips from our event partners on how to be better prepared on the day.

A MESSAGE FROM CENTRAL HAWKES BAY TOURISM

The countdown is definitely on now and it’s not long ’til you’ll be absorbed by the beautiful winding roads, rolling hills and miles of coastline here in Central Hawke’s Bay. Or activities to do in that spare time during your stay? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. The ultimate Baycation is one in the rural Hawke’s Bay. For the 2022 Central Hawkes Bay Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race, all Intro Course teams will have 4 stages and 1 Mystery Activity, Short Course teams will have 6 stages and 2 Mystery Activities! The Medium Course teams will have 6 stages and 3 Mystery Activities, and the Long Course teams will have 6 stages and 4 Mystery Activities!

Still sitting on the fence? Don’t miss out sign up today here!

COURSE UPDATE – WANAKA

For the 2022 Wanaka Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race, all Intro Course teams will have 4 stages and 1 Mystery Activity, Short Course teams will have 5 stages and 2 Mystery Activities! The Medium Course teams will have 9 stages and 3 Mystery Activities and the Long Course teams will have 9 stages and 4 Mystery Activities!

BE PREPARED! GET THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT!

Backpacks – All team members need a suitable, comfortable pack big enough to carry all personal and team compulsory gear, plus water and nutritional supplies, and sometimes trekking shoes, for the duration of the event. We recommend Camelbak packs for the Spirited Women events. Check out their store finder for NZ suppliers. Having pockets at the front of your pack for food is a good idea, as it means you don’t have to stop and take off your pack to eat. This means you are more likely to eat regularly and stay fuelled for the duration of the event.

Mountain bike – Everyone needs a mountain bike. Please make sure you get your bike serviced at a bike shop a few weeks before the event to minimise the chance of mechanicals out on the course. There is nothing worse than discovering your brakes are jammed on, or your gears don’t change, on event day.  Each team must also carry tools to fix the necessary running repairs. Make sure someone in your team knows how to fix a puncture and a broken chain.

Cycle helmet – In line with NZ Law, it is compulsory for everyone to wear a NZ safety approved cycle helmet when riding your bike.

Bike lights In line with NZ Law, a front (white) and rear (red) light are both compulsory:

  • A rear red light must be fixed to the mountain bike. Please make sure you secure this well. It is advisable to use a little tape to ensure the light does not rattle loose from the holder and come off whilst riding.
  • A white light must be fitted facing the direction of travel. This could be fixed to the handlebars or helmet. The headlamp (also a compulsory item) mounted to a rider’s helmet will suffice for the front light

Footwear plus a motivational note from Salming NZ – Alright Spirited Women, its planning and preparation time. Let’s dust off those shoes if you haven’t already and start getting out and about. Routine is key so scheduling time to train is important. Personally, I like getting out each morning. I set an alarm put my shoes on and go. Whether it’s a run, a walk or simply a recovery jog, I get it done first thing in the morning. A lot better in the summer. And remember what the famous quote says … “It’s not the will to win that counts – everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that makes a difference.’ Vince Lombardi. All the best everyone. Holly Team Salming. Having a good off-road shoe can make a huge difference to your performance and enjoyment of the event. You need something that will grip in any condition. Check out the range of Salming outdoor shoes here.

COMPULSORY GEAR

Now is the time to ensure you have all the mandatory gear. Prior planning is the key to success! For more detailed information on the mandatory gear list, please see the website here. This gear is for your safety and the safety of your team. If something goes wrong out there, or if the weather turns nasty, you will be thankful for having this gear. Check out the range at Further Faster for all your compulsory clothing needs. Their motto is to help outdoor folk lead a life of adventure by providing quality gear for both humans and dogs. If you are looking for top-quality lightweight gear to add to your Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race compulsory gear kit but don’t know where to start, then look no further. Get over to their website to check out their women’s adventure racing gear page.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED…?

Beyond your body fitness, there’s a lot of details to be cared for ahead of the upcoming adventure event.  This is the perfect time to get your skincare sorted, to try it ahead of race day so that you know it performs, and to know it’s light, robust and won’t sting your eyes.

For my first Spirited Women race as a participant, I plan to be at the South Island event, but will not be at the North Island one. So, this year our online shop is the best place to get sorted for the products you want to try or need to re-stock ahead of race day.

Check out our outdoor skin range here. Use the code below to get an awesome discount available to ALL our Spirited Women!

WHAT TO EAT AND DRINK

All women are required to carry adequate nutrition for the completion of the entire race, and adequate hydration between places water can be topped up.

Nutrition – We recommend you eat something at least every hour whether you feel hungry or not to keep up your energy levels. Our favourite snack is the snack range by One Square Meal. OSM® stands for One Square Meal®, reflecting their commitment to making real food with real nutritional benefits. OSM have a complete range of Snack Bars to fuel every part of your day from Activities & Adventures through to your Everyday & Lifestyle choices making them perfect for a long day out on the Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure racecourses. All OSM products are proudly made in New Zealand.

Make sure you store your snacks in your Kai Carrier re-useable pouches to save on glad wrap or plastic bag usage. Remember to train on the food you intend to race on, so your stomach doesn’t get a shock on event day ?

IMPORTANT CHANGES IN RESPECT TO THE GOVERNMENT NEW COVID PROTECTION FRAMEWORK & REGULATIONS NOW IMPOSED ON THE EVENT INDUSTRY

From Friday 3rd December 2021 a new Covid Protection Framework came into effect which has associated Government restrictions imposed on the Event Industry sector which we are legally required to follow.  This means that all our event staff, contractors, marshals etc working on the Spirited Women Adventure Race’s in 2022 must be double vaccinated. Furthermore, as the Spirited Women Adventure Race has greater than 100 entrants, we are required to sight all entrants’ My Vaccination Passes and have the right to ask for identification to verify these. With our event company abiding by the new laws placed upon the Event Industry, individuals who are not vaccinated will not be able to attend the Spirited Women Adventure Race. Also, under these rules Spectators will not be permitted in the event village or on course.

We will make the final decision on how to proceed with our CHB event at 5pm on Thursday the 3rd of February 2022 (three weeks out from the event). Likewise, the final decision on how to proceed with our Wanaka event will be made at 5pm on Thursday the 10th of March 2022 (three weeks out from the event).

Should the decision to postpone either event be made, we will inform all entrants of our decision by email.  If, however, these dates pass and you have not received an email, please assume the event is still going forward with some changes.

Please make sure you have read and understood our COVID plans here.

We sincerely hope the above information addresses our event company’s new legal obligations and openly & honestly details how we are mandated to operate, the options available to you (the entrant) and all delivery scenarios at play at this current point in time.

  2. Click ‘Join a team’ or ‘Register myself’
  3. Enter the code (PLEASE INSERT TEAM CODE) and click ‘apply’ when asked for which will automatically add them to the team, as per below image

ZEFFER CIDER INTRODUCES SLACK MA GIRDLE!

We’re very excited to share this special Reserve Range cider with you! Our 2021 Slack Ma Girdle is crafted from more than 50 cider apple varieties, some of which we’ve grown right here in our (little) orchard at our cidery in Hawke’s Bay. This marks the first cider we’ve bottled for you using our very own apples ?

To craft this special drop, the cider was pressed and then transferred without clarification into old wine barrels. We let the juice start fermenting naturally, as we tend to let our reserve range ciders ferment ‘wild’. This adds a layer of complexity to the cider and an element of uncertainty that allows this special juice to seek its own path. After its 5 week wild fermentation, the cider was aged on lees for a further 6 months before racking and bottling.

At 6.7% ABV, our Slack Ma Girdle is full-bodied and dry with a deep amber hue. It has ripe apple and tropical fruit notes on the nose and a firm, challenging tannin structure on the palate, making it a great cider to pair with food.

We’ve made a very small quantity of this one and it’s available exclusively from our online shop, so head on over to scoop yours up: https://www.zeffer.co.nz/shop/slack-ma-girdle

Special Enews: Covid Protection Framework

View web version | Unsubscribe

CHANGES IN RESPECT TO GOVERNMENT NEW COVID PROTECTION FRAMEWORK & REGULATIONS NOW IMPOSED ON THE EVENT INDUSTRY

As you will be aware a new Covid Protection Framework is about to come into effect which has associated Government restrictions imposed on the Events industry sector which we are legally required to follow.

Right from 23rd October 2021 when the Government’s first announcement of the planned change in Covid Protection Framework and news of the implications to the Event Industry, we announced we would continue the 75% refund available at that time until further notice, giving us time to assess the changes as they developed and be absolutely certain how they would affect our event business. Just as we could not foresee the current changes when we released our entries in early June, we cannot foresee what the future will bring. However, we have done our utmost to think through all the possible scenarios that could play out so you, our participants are fully aware of our plans moving forward and the options available to you.

Firstly, from the 3rd of December 2021, it is required that all our event staff, contractors, marshals etc working on the Spirited Women Adventure Race’s in 2022 must be double vaccinated. Furthermore, as the Spirited Women Adventure Race has greater than 100 entrants, we are required to sight all entrants’ My Vaccination Passes and have the right to ask for identification to verify these.

IMPLICATIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT’S NEW COVID PROTECTION FRAMEWORK FOR ENTRANTS

With our event company abiding by the new laws placed upon the Event Industry, individuals who are not vaccinated will not be able to attend the Spirited Women Adventure Race.

If any team has one or more team members who are not vaccinated, they have one of four options to consider –

  1. replacing that team member
  2. participate as a team of three (the team gift box will still contain all four members event merchandise)
  3. withdraw the entire team from the event and receive a 75% refund (less $40 admin fee), no questions asked.
  4. advertising & selling their team entry*

* If you are able to find someone to buy your entry, please contact us and we can advise on how to proceed to make the switch with no costs incurred.

Subsequently, we have decided to extend the 75% refund to the 24th of December 2021 (three weeks from when the new Government legislation takes effect) to give teams time to decide how they wish to proceed and contact us they would like to withdraw. From the 25th December 2021, the refund percentages will return back to the original dates advertised on the website when entries were first released.

IMPLICATIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT’S NEW COVID PROTECTION FRAMEWORK ON THE EVENT DELIVERY

Under the new Traffic Light system Red, Orange and Green colour’s (replacing the previous Alert Levels 1-4) very different possible scenario’s (see below) now present themselves to us in respect to the delivery or postponement of the event.

The possible scenarios as they stand are:

 (Green Light)

Scenario 1: Event will go ahead – minor changes The 2022 event will go ahead as planned if the region the event is being held in is in Green (or the old level one or two) and the rest of NZ is at Orange or Green (or the old level two or lower). The event does not require the whole country to be at Green. Orange regions are permitted to travel to a Green region to participate. AnchorAll four team members will need to attend the Rego-Expo together. My Vaccination Passes and a form of photo identification (i.e., Drivers Licence or Passport) will be required by all. Supporters and Spectators will be prohibited from attending the event on Race Day.

Scenario 2: Postponement The 2022 event will be postponed if the region is at Green (or the old level one) and any other region of NZ with a high number of participation entrants is at Red (or the old Level three or higher). A Springtime postponement date will then be communicated to all entrants once this has been finalised with all the necessary stakeholders.

(Orange Light)

Scenario 3: Event will go ahead – minor changes The 2022 event will go ahead as planned if the region the event is being held in is at Orange (or the old level two) and the rest of NZ is at Orange or Green (or the old level two or lower). The event does not require the whole country to be at Green. Green regions are permitted to travel to an Orange region to participate. All four team members will need to attend the Rego-Expo together. My Vaccination Passes and a form of photo identification (i.e., Drivers Licence or Passport) will be required by all. Supporters and Spectators will be prohibited from attending the event on Race Day.

Scenario 4: Postponement The 2022 event will be postponed if the region the event is being held in is at Orange (or the old level two) and any other region of NZ with a high number of participation entrants is at Red (or the old Level three or higher). A Springtime postponement date will then be communicated to all entrants once this has been finalised with all the necessary stakeholders.

Level 3 or 4 (Red Light)

Scenario 5: Postponement The 2022 event will be postponed if the region the event is being held in is at Red (or the old level three or higher), regardless of what colour (or old alert level) the rest of NZ is at. A Springtime postponement date will then be communicated to all entrants once this has been finalised with all the necessary stakeholders.

We feel it is extremely important to say, we really want to run our 2022 events, however, we also understand for everyone’s sake any postponement decision will need to be made as far in advance as possible.

In this instance, we would like to give you the heads up that we will make the final decision on how to proceed with our CHB event at 5 pm on Thursday the 3rd February 2022 (three weeks out from the event). Likewise, the final decision on how to proceed with our Wanaka event will be made at 5 pm on Thursday the 10th March 2022 (three weeks out from the event).

Should the decision to postpone either event be made, we will inform all entrants of our decision by email.  If, however, these dates pass and you have not received an email, please assume the event is still going forward with minor changes.

We sincerely hope the above addresses our event company’s new legal obligations and openly & honestly details how we are mandated to operate, the options available to you (the entrant) and all delivery scenarios at play at this current point in time.

Yours sincerely, Neil, Kat and Debbie

FYI – 2022 Event Cover Cancellation Insurance in place

(Applies to both the 2022 CHB & Wanaka events)

Where insurance can be obtained and in the case of a cancellation due to adverse weather, natural disaster, or terrorism, etc., then provided the insurance claim is accepted, a full entry fee will be refunded to each team.

Where insurance cannot be obtained, in the case of a communicable disease, pandemic, actual or threatened war, or unimaginable things such as an invasion or act of foreign enemies, etc. the event will be postponed to a date in Spring (tbc) and the team’s entry would be carried over. Team members who cannot participate on the new postponement date can be replaced for free as per normal. Complete teams who cannot participate on the new postponement date can advertise and sell their entry as per normal.

In the instance we have to cancel the event on the new Spring postponement date due to adverse weather, natural disaster, or terrorism, etc, then provided the insurance claim is accepted, a full entry fee will be refunded to each team.

If, however, the new Spring postponed event happens to be cancelled due to things insurance cannot be obtained for (communicable disease, pandemic, actual or threatened war, or unimaginable things such as an invasion or act of foreign enemies etc), then the event company is not obligated to give any refund or transfer. However, in good faith, the event company will do its utmost to return to entrants all unspent budgeted delivery expenses and successfully recall venue/contractor/service costs that were cancelled.
